HCC Community Garden Guidelines
Any resident of our community can choose a garden plot when gardeners meet in the fall to plan for next year's growing season. This is a flexible process and changes in choices can be made even into the beginning of the season at the early spring meeting.
Gardeners are expected to use organic pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, soil amendments, seeds and plants. There is an annual $25.00 per plot fee to reimburse the community for the extra water we use.
Shared gardening tools are kept in the shed behind the dumpsters closest to the garden.
Each gardener is expected to maintain their plot by weeding in and around their plot and to help build the soil in the plot. Composted material from leaves, garden "waste", and kitchen scraps from the three black plastic bins located throughout the community are available to amend soil in the plots. This material is collected and kept in the covered, wooden bins at the edge of the garden.
It is at the seasonal garden meetings and informal gatherings that gardeners share more detailed information about practices and tips for successful gardening.
Currently (2026) aLuna Chen and Les Beecher share leadership duties and can answer questions about being a gardener in our community garden.
