CoHousing: We are a cohousing community -- an intentional community whose members are dedicated to working together, making decisions together, and developing ongoing respectful connections with each other and the larger human community. Cohousing offers a unique opportunity to get to know your neighbors and develop friendships that other neighborhoods rarely offer.
Demographics: If you are considering Highline Crossing as your possible home, you might want to know more about us. Sometimes the simple facts are the easiest way to begin a story. While relying on demographics will inevitably miss the richness of our lives, it will give you at least a window into who we are. Our community is made up of about 50 adults and 15 kids. We range in age from 3 to 80 years of age. We are a mix of singles, adults with grown children, and those whose children are still at home. And, of course, there are many grandchildren who visit from time to time.
Teams: We have several teams that help guide the work of the community:
Steering Committee - the Steering Committee includes representatives from each team and from the community at large and essentially serves as our board of directors as required by our CC&Rs.
Buildings Team - The Buildings Team oversees external maintenance of the community's six residential buildings, the garages, and the Common House.
Common House Team - This team oversees interior maintenance and activities related to the Common House.
Communications & Marketing Team - This team maintains the community's Web site and coordinates other marketing efforts, including new member orientations and assistance with home sales.
Finance Team - The Finance Team oversees the community's finances and guides the annual budget development process.
Green Team - The Green Team provides educational/action opportunities on environmental initiatives aimed at increasing the community's energy efficiencies and enhancing its environmental stewardship.
Grounds Team - The Grounds Team is responsible for overseeing maintenance of the community's landscaping and common open space areas.
Ad-Hoc Teams - On occasion, special teams form to help provide guidance on specific topics, such as intergenerational matters, governance concerns, and sustainability issues.
Community Meals: We have community meals once or twice a week in the Common House. Community meals are a great way to feel connected with neighbors and share the important sustenance of good food and good friends.
Community Meetings: Highline Crossing's community meetings take place quarterly. Meeting dates and times vary depending on the season.
Participation Expectations: Participation is at the heart of cohousing. We have an expectation that all community members will participate in the maintenance and decision-making of the community. We have required work days each quarter to help maintain our common property. In addition, there is an expectation that members will participate on a team and attend community meetings on a regular basis.
Social Activities: In addition to community meals, we enjoy many other fun activities throughout the year, including Oktoberfest, St. Patrick's Day, and Christmas Eve celebrations; Memorial Day and Fourth of July picnics; and book clubs, bridge tournaments, and impromptu get-togethers.
